Sun protection with a comfortable fit

Sunglasses are part of everyday eye protection. At Dr. Schwartz Optometrist & Associates, you can discuss sunglasses alongside your other eyewear needs. Tell us how you use them, whether for driving, walking, outdoor work, or time near the water.

Check the UV protection label

Look for lenses marked UV400 or providing 99–100% protection from both UVA and UVB. A comfortable frame that covers the area around your eyes helps limit light entering from the sides. A broad-brimmed hat adds protection.

Think about your daily activities

Polarized lenses can reduce reflected glare, such as glare from water or snow. Check the stated UV protection separately when choosing lenses. If you wear contact lenses, sunglasses still help protect areas the contacts do not cover.

Ask about the available options

Bring your current prescription or glasses and ask which sunglass options are available for your needs. Discuss lens design, fit, coverage, and cost before ordering. For activities with flying debris or impact risk, ask about appropriate protective eyewear rather than relying on ordinary sunglasses.
